A cement enterprise's 5000 t/d production line adopts a YKK710-8 motor for its kiln tail exhaust fan. Recently, the motor has been emitting intermittent rustling and abnormal noise during operation. The on-site workers turned to Engineer Zhang for professional guidance.

Engineer Zhang pointed out that judging the operating sound of a motor is one of the effective methods to check its running status. The main causes of abnormal motor noise and the corresponding solutions are listed below:
1.Damaged motor bearings or loose motor coupling
Shut down the motor for inspection immediately. Replace the bearings if necessary and re-align the coupling. Improper handling will easily lead to serious accidents such as motor scraping.
2.Single-phase operation, unbalanced three-phase current, over-high voltage or unbalanced three-phase voltage
Check for sparking during routine inspection and evaluate the spark grade. Sparks below Class 2 can be handled during the next shutdown; otherwise, stop the motor at once for inspection. Check the brush holder, commutator, commutator segments and other parts, and replace severely damaged components.
3.Cooling fan blade scraping against the fan cover
This kind of noise is easy to identify. Simply shut down the motor, remove the fan cover and carry out trimming and adjustment.
